Eat Your Fruits

Eat Your Fruits

“Remember to eat your fruits and vegetables.” We hear this from doctors all the time, and I was reminded of it again during a recent visit. They mentioned that ideally about half of our plate should be vegetables. At first that sounds like a lot, but when you start paying attention to what you eat, it actually makes sense.

I have noticed that when I eat too much meat, bread, or heavier foods, my body starts craving something fresh. Sometimes that means a salad, but often it means fruit. Fruit is such a simple and natural way to satisfy those cravings, especially when you want something sweet.

For me, fruit is also nostalgic. As a Mexican American, I'm reminded of being in Mexico, seeing fruit vendors on the street selling cups of fresh fruit with lime, tajín, and chili powder. It is refreshing, flavorful, and something that always brings back good memories.

The plate you see here is simply what I had in my fridge. The day before, we had gone to a taco truck and the lady kindly gave us a fruit cup, which had papaya and sandía. I also had oranges at home, so I cut those up along with some mango. It turned into a colorful and refreshing plate.

Some fruits, like mango, can sometimes be a little more expensive, especially depending on the season or the type you buy. But I like to think of it as an investment in my health. Over time, those choices add up and make a difference.

Fruit also gives your body hydration and energy. For example, I have been eating a banana before going to the gym, and it honestly gives me enough energy for my workout or a run. It has been helpful to learn which fruits my body enjoys and how I can incorporate them into my routine.

There are also so many ways to enjoy fruit. You can blend them into smoothies, add them to Greek yogurt bowls, or simply enjoy them fresh. Blueberries, raspberries, mango, oranges, and bananas are some of my favorites.

This is just a small reminder to slow down, listen to your body, and enjoy the simple things. Sometimes something as simple as a plate of fruit can be both nourishing and joyful.

And yes, do not forget to eat your fruits. 🍊🥭🍉
